Neighbors rescue man from burning home

Neighbors may have saved a man’s life this afternoon by pulling him out of a burning home.

Heavy flames were showing when firefighters responded shortly after 3 p.m. to a ranch-style brick home in the 6200 block of Lorimer Street.

One resident suffered severe burns. He was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to Miami Valley Hospital, according to Trotwood fire officials, who credited the people who helped rescue him with possibly saving his life.

A fire hydrant is in front of the property, but it was frozen, which delayed water access for fire crews.

Across the street, neighbor Brandie Ivery said she was inside her house when she heard loud sirens from fire trucks.

“I looked outside and the house across the street was engulfed in flames,” Ivery said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the property with yellow police tape.

The cause of the fire was not immediately released, and it’s not clear why the property was blocked off.
